Training
Jim and Alice Pickup and their son, Julian, established Pickup Catering Limited in December 2005. Although their main objective was to establish a top class restaurant within the Hotel Victoria in Newquay, they also saw an opportunity to provide an excellent training facility for young people in the Newquay area. The Regency Restaurant and La Rochelle Restaurant in the Hotel Victoria will allow trainees to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst working and earning a wage.
Jim was Head of Hospitality and Tourism at Cornwall College - St. Austell until July 2005 so he fully understands the training requirements to fit the demands of today's catering environment. He is a registered trainer and verifier so assessment will take place whilst trainees cook or wait on tables as part of there normal daily routine.
